Our Cities

The City of Cairo

Our city, with a population pushing 10,000, may be considered small to some. However, our location and mild winters continue to attract those who crave small town friendliness and values, community pride and support, and a laid back lifestyle.

Cairo, located in Grady County, attracts people who enjoy a variety of outdoor activities from year round golfing to hunting and fishing, horseback riding to motocross, rattlesnake roundups and Indian Pow Wows to Mule Days and Antique Car Rallies. We also offer a variety of arts with two award winning dance studios, excellent middle and high school drama departments, as well as a local theater troupe. Our Roddenbery Memorial Library has no equal for the size of our city and the Grady Cultural Center is a newly renovated syrup plant that is an ideal place to hold parties and business functions of various sizes.

Our public school system is composed of two county community elementary/middle schools, three city elementary and one middle school, with approximately 1,200 students coming together in one high school. Cairo High School and College and Career Academy, home of the Cairo Syrupmakers, has an academic program consisting of multiple diploma and scholarship opportunities, an outstanding athletic program, superior 250 plus band program, excellent drama and choral program, and a Jr. ROTC program, along with varied academic and community service clubs.

Cairo is an ideal location for those interested in living at home and attending college, or returning to college. Southern Regional Technical College and Thomas University are a short 14 miles west of us in Thomasville, Georgia. Florida State University, Florida A & M University, Tallahassee Community College, Bainbridge State College, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and Valdosta State University are all within an hour commute.

Grady General Hospital, located in Cairo, and associated with Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, has the distinction of being one of the nations top 100 small hospitals. With a dedicated and caring staff of doctors, nurses, therapist, technicians and support personnel, it is a tremendous asset to our community. Magnolia Manor, another Cairo plus, is an assisted living home, serving residents with around the clock care according to the needs of the individual.

Cairo is ideally situated 35 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida (with an easy 45 minute drive to Tallahassee Regional Airport), 15 miles west of historic Thomasville, 4 hours south of Atlanta and 4 hours north of Orlando, Florida.
All in all, Cairo is a wonderful place to visit and an even better place to live, work and play.
